Seeds as Commons

The new Open-Source Seed Licence of Agrecol offers an alternative to the increasing privatisation and market concentration of common goods. Plant breeders, agricultural scientists, lawyers and commons experts have, therefore, developed a strategy to prevent crop seeds from being subjected to plant variety protection or patenting. And, OpenSourceSeeds a newly created service provider will support plant breeders in licensing their newly developed varieties  and  help seed producers and farmers to use them as seed commons, unrestricted by intellectual property rights. OpenSourceSeeds, based in Germany and has started working in April 2017
